What a Day for Health!
Hundreds of Jitegemee children and parents participated in our Annual Health Days held on 17 and 18 August during the school break, and received a check-up, treatment and medication from our expert team of local healthcare practitioners, headed up by Dr. Desire Aime Nshimirimana and Mr. Bannister Kilonzo. Meet Felicitas. She’s the third born in a family of six. She was raised by a single mum in Mjini slum outside Machakos. Great Start to 2017!
2017 at Jitegemee started with a bang! In January, we provided support for 65 primary school students, 18 secondary students, and 11 college students to return to school. We met these students early in the year to provide them with any fees or tuition they may need for the first term, along with new school uniforms, shoes and textbooks for the coming year. First Ever Jitegemee Alumni Day!
On 1 December, 2016, also World AIDS Day, we were thrilled to welcome Jitegemee alumni for our first ever Annual Alumni Day! More than 75 graduates of our vocational, primary, secondary and college programs met with Jitegemee team members and current students, and many gave accounts of how the program changed the course of their lives for the better. 2016 Jitegemee Health Day
Every year Jitegemee conducts a Health Day for all our students and parents, so on December 6 and 7, 2016, 110 students and 87 parents were examined by our doctors and medical support team. The parents and students also received education and public health information from representatives from the Ministry of Health office in Machakos about communicable diseases and how to prevent transmission. New Penpal Program for Jitegemee Students
On Monday, September 19, Vocational Class 11 and 12 students participated in the launch of a new penpal program that will link Jitegemee students with students at Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School (CCLCS) in Massachusetts, USA. Students identified themes they want to write and learn about from their penpals. These themes included food, culture, climate, marriage age, career aspirations, hobbies, and so much more.
