Last year was a big one for so many of our students and parents who took their education and self-empowerment to the next level! The end of primary school marks an important point in the academic careers of many Kenyan students. At the end of the school year, students take the pivotal Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam. With help from study materials distributed by Jitegemee, all of our 15 exam candidates passed their tests. And 9 out of 15 Jitegemee Class 8 students received … [Read more...]
Such Wonder – A Field Trip to Lake Nakuru
In October 2018, students from our 14th Vocational Program class left Machakos for their first field trip. They headed to Lake Nakuru National Park on the annual field trip, but it wouldn’t be just the animals and beautiful landscapes that amazed them. Students gathered at the Huduma Center bus station in Machakos Town hours before the bus even arrived. The sun had not even risen, but the students were not going to miss a chance to see more of their country. As soon as the bus left town, … [Read more...]

“I was so happy that day” – Annual Field Trip
A few weeks ago, along with some friends visiting from the USA, we took our Vocational students on a field trip to Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate National Park. Here's what they had to say about the trip: It was on a Wednesday when we had to travel for a long journey to Lake Naivasha. Awoken up by the phone, I jumped out of my bed as if pricked by a thousand hot needles. I threw my red Raymond blanket, leaving it in a heap. When I went outside, the sun rose from the deep bowels of mother earth. … [Read more...]

I was a colleague of her mother, Ida Stockman, at Howard University. I served on the board of Jitegemee for a few years more … [Read more...]
