The Jitegemee Vocational Program serves as a vital lifeline for vulnerable children and youth in our community, offering a path to dignity through specialized trade skills. We recognize that for many young people in Machakos, the barrier to economic independence isn’t a lack of talent, but a lack of opportunity and guidance. By providing a structured environment that focuses on both professional expertise and personal growth, we empower our students to break the cycle of poverty and take control of their financial futures.
At Jitegemee, we believe that economic empowerment isn’t just about a certificate; it’s about a transformation. Our Vocational Program is redefining how vulnerable youth in Machakos transition from dependents to providers through a unique, “Market-First“ pedagogical model.
Unlike traditional programs that front-load months of dry theory, we flip the script to ensure our students remain engaged and job-ready from day one. Our approach follows a strategic three-pillar journey;
Holistic Foundation: Participants begin on our campus, where we instill vital soft skills—character development, financial literacy and professional ethics—preparing them for the real world.
Apprenticeship First: We then embed students directly with local master tradesmen (our Mentors) within Machakos. This hands-on immersion ensures they learn skills that are actually in demand.
Academic Integration: Only after mastering the craft do students head to TVET institutions to polish their theoretical knowledge in preparation for their NITA certification exams.

The results speak for themselves. This model has achieved an incredible 85% success rate, with graduates either securing immediate employment or launching their own businesses. By prioritizing practical experience, we aren’t just teaching trades; we are building the backbone of our local economy.
This program does more than just fill jobs; it reshapes the social fabric of Machakos by turning at-risk youth into instrumental, high-value members of society. By escaping the trap of generational poverty, our graduates are no longer looking for a helping hand—they are extending one. These young men and women have transformed from household dependents into reliable providers and taxpayers, contributing to the local economy and serving as role models for the children following in their footsteps. Through Jitegemee, a trade skill becomes the foundation for a lifetime of community leadership and stability.
