Vacancy: 2026 June – Communications Intern

JITEGEMEE COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (1 Position – Machakos)
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2002, Jitegemee supports 200 street and destitute children annually in Machakos, Kenya. We provide access to formal and vocational education for street children and teens through scholarships to primary and secondary schools. Our vocational program matches students with skilled artisans in the community. We also provide daily lunch, extra tuition, family counseling, medical care, economic empowerment training and support to children and their families.

Position Overview

Are you a budding storyteller and multimedia enthusiast looking to gain hands-on experience in corporate communications, digital marketing and brand management? This is your opportunity. We are seeking a creative, proactive and detail-oriented Communications Intern to join our strong team. You will play a key role in capturing our impact, managing our digital presence and ensuring our brand remains consistent and impactful across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

1. Media & Content Creation

  • Photography & Videography: Capture high-quality action images and videos of our program work and field activities.
  • Event Documentation: Document organization events using professional media equipment (cameras, sound gear and lighting).
  • Post-Production: Edit, merge and format raw photos and videos into polished assets for social media, reports and the website.
  • Asset Management: Organize, archive and tag the organization’s digital media library for easy retrieval.
  • Graphic Design: Design and produce branding and promotional materials, including brochures, annual reports, infographics, social media posters, banners, and advertisements.

2. Digital Media & Website Management

  • Social Media Coordination: Assist in setting up new social media material to boost brand visibility; develop, share and schedule daily/weekly posts.
  • Community Engagement: Monitor and respond professionally to enquiries on our social media platforms.
  • Storytelling & Impact Reporting: Develop success story collection tools; actively gather, write and edit impact stories from the field to feature on the website.
  • Website Maintenance: Edit and upload website updates and promotional web banners.
  • Email Marketing: Design and deploy regular stakeholder newsletters and progress updates using Mailchimp.

3. Brand Alignment & Administration

  • Brand Guarding: Ensure all internal and external communication materials strictly align with the organization’s branding guidelines and partner compliance standards.
  • Inbound Correspondence: Monitor general communication channels, responding to or forwarding enquiries to the relevant departments in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Recent graduate or final year student pursuing a degree/diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, IT or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in photography, videography and handling Audio-Visual equipment.
    • Experience with media editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Filmora, Canva or CapCut).
    • Familiarity with social media management (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook) and email marketing tools (Mailchimp) is an added advantage.
  • Soft Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, a keen eye for visual design, ability to take initiative and a collaborative mindset.
