Jitegemee Prioritizes Safety During Floods

Jitegemee cares deeply about the well-being of our staff and beneficiaries. Due to the recent heavy rains and flooding impacting many parts of Kenya, we are implementing temporary measures to ensure everyone’s safety. These measures will be in effect from today, April 29th, 2024, until May 24th, 2024, or as otherwise advised.

Important Notice for Students:

  • Closure of Study Sessions: Due to the rains, vocational learning sessions are temporarily halted until it’s safe to resume.
  • Safety First: Your safety is our top priority. Please do not attempt to cross flooded rivers or streams.
  • Stay Healthy: During the rainy season, wear warm clothes and practice good hygiene to avoid illnesses.

For our dedicated staff:

  • Adjusted work hours: To ensure everyone gets home safely before dark, working hours will be temporarily adjusted. Staff will now close work at 4:00 pm instead of the usual 5:00 pm.

For the caregivers:

  • Stay informed: Listen to local radio or check weather updates regularly to stay ahead of potential downpours and flooding.
  • Secure your home: Clear drainage ditches, remove loose objects from around the house, and have a plan to move important belongings to higher ground if flooding occurs.

These adjustments are intended to minimize exposure to potential hazards associated with heavy rains and flooding. We encourage everyone to prioritize safety during this time. Stay informed about weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel, especially during heavy downpours.

Stay Safe, Jitegemee family!
